Lidl Ireland is giving fans the chance to get fight night ready ahead of Katie Taylor’s historic Croke Park farewell with the launch of a limited-edition range of ‘In Katie’s Corner’ boxing shorts.
The exclusive shorts will go on sale online from 10am on Friday, August 28, with all proceeds donated to Lidl’s charity partner, Family Carers Ireland.
Priced at €25, the shorts feature Lidl’s signature colours and the retailer’s ‘In Katie’s Corner’ slogan across the waistband. The limited-edition merchandise offers supporters the opportunity to own a piece of history while backing one of Ireland’s greatest sporting stars ahead of her final fight on home soil.
Taylor will face Amanda Serrano in what is expected to be an emotional farewell at Croke Park on Saturday, September 5, with Lidl serving as Title Event Partner.
Launching the new merchandise alongside Lidl are five young boxers from Liberty Boxing Club in Bray – Madeline Taylor, Amelie Taylor, Molly Higgins, Amy O’Shaughnessy and Dinaa Ghorbani.
The group represents the next generation of female boxers inspired by Taylor’s achievements and influence. Among them are National Champion Molly Higgins and former European kickboxing champion Dinaa Ghorbani, while Taylor’s nieces Madeline and Amelie bring an especially personal connection to the campaign.
Madeline Taylor said she was “incredibly proud” of her aunt and praised the example she has set for young girls.
“She has shown me and so many other young girls what can be possible when you work hard and believe in yourself,” she said.
The campaign also features three prominent Irish sportswomen – Dublin LGFA star and former Ireland rugby international Hannah Tyrrell, former Republic of Ireland footballer Stephanie Zambra and Ireland rugby international Edel McMahon.
Tyrrell said Taylor had changed what women and girls across Ireland could “imagine for themselves in sport”, adding that her influence extended far beyond boxing.
Lidl Ireland’s Corporate Affairs Director Eimear O’Sullivan said the retailer was proud to stand “In Katie’s Corner” for the landmark event.
“These limited-edition shorts are our way of capturing some of that incredible fight-night energy and giving fans another way to show their support as the countdown to Croke Park begins,” she said.
The launch forms part of Lidl’s wider campaign celebrating Taylor’s legacy and the impact she has had on women’s sport in Ireland.
The retailer has supported women’s sport for more than a decade through its partnership with the LGFA, investing more than €15 million in the sport and grassroots clubs nationwide.
With demand expected to be high, fans are being urged to move quickly when sales open at 10am on Friday, August 28. The €25 shorts will be available online while stocks last.
