Glasson Lakehouse, a hotel located near Athlone in Co Westmeath, has voluntarily closed, following an outbreak of norovirus.
The four star hotel announced this closure, amid the outbreak of the virus, which has affected workers and guests.
The hotel has been the subject of a HSE investigation since Monday, after they informed the health service when it noticed that some recent guests and members began to exhibit symptoms.
Since then, a spokesperson for the HSE has said that the hotel has voluntarily closes in order to allow control measures, with the HSE Dublin and Midlands public health working in tandem to ensure that all appropriate measures are being taken, according to reports in the Irish Independent.
“It is with regret that we have decided to temporarily close our premises as a precautionary measure following an outbreak of norovirus", a spokesperson for the hotel said. “In consultation with the HSE, we implemented a voluntary closure of the hotel and are working closely with the HSE to carry out all appropriate control measures as per their recommendations".
"We deeply regret the impact this outbreak has had on our guests, and thank them for their patience and support while we complete these necessary measures", they added. “We are doing everything we can to look after everyone affected, and are seeking alternative venues for guests and events to minimise the inconvenience caused".
“We will continue to work closely with the health authorities and will provide an update regarding our reopening as soon as possible".
Elsewhere, a spokesperson for the HSE stated that careful food handling and hand hygiene can “help prevent further spread of gastroenteritis”.
“Public health advice is that people who are unwell stay off work or school until 48 hours symptom-free".
Symptoms for the norovirus gastroenteritis, as well as diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, muscles aches, and a loss appetite.
