An Oireachtas committee will this afternoon question officials from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine over continued delays to vital scheme payments for farmers.
Members of the Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food are seeking answers as frustration mounts among farmers nationwide who depend on these financial supports.
Committee Chair Aindrias Moynihan TD has described the delays as “unacceptable,” stressing that the committee expects “in-depth detail on why this problem persists and what has been implemented in order to address the ongoing issues.”
He added that the Department “must be in a position to devote whatever resources are necessary to ensure these vital payments are delivered to the farmers who rely on them.”
The hearing comes amid growing concern in the farming community about the impact of late payments on livelihoods and planning, with the issue expected to remain in the political spotlight until concrete solutions are provided.
