Ryanair Cancels 170 Flights Amid French Air Traffic Control Strike
More than 30,000 passengers are facing travel disruption after Ryanair was forced to cancel 170 flights due to a nationwide air traffic control strike in France.
The industrial action, which is set to take place later today and tomorrow, has prompted widespread disruption at the start of Europe’s peak summer holiday season.
France’s civil aviation authority, the DGAC, instructed airlines to cut flights at Paris airports by 40% on Thursday, July 4th, in anticipation of the walkout.
In a statement issued today, Ryanair warned that the impact of the strike extends far beyond France.
“In addition to flights to and from France being cancelled, this strike will also affect all French overflights,” the airline said.
This means passengers on routes that pass through French airspace, including flights from the UK to Greece and from Spain to Ireland, are also likely to experience delays or cancellations.
The airline has called for urgent reform to protect overflights during French air traffic control strikes, a long-running issue that has repeatedly affected European travellers.
