The Department of Transport have revealed that a search operation is underway following reports of a missing person from a ferry in the Irish Sea.
The operation, which remains ongoing, began after the Irish Coast Guard were alerted to the incident by the HM Coast Guard in the UK, which is coordinating this operation.
The search is also being ably assisted by Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter 116, as well as all-weather lifeboats from the RNLI's Howth and Dún Laoghaire stations.
In a statement, HM Coastguard said that they received a report of a man "who may have gone overboard from a passenger vessel during an overnight crossing between Dublin and Holyhead" at around 9.15am.
"An HM Coastguard helicopter and aeroplane were sent as well as RNLI lifeboats from Holyhead, Porthdinllaen and Howth. A broadcast was also made and nearby vessels assisted", they added. "North Wales Police and the Garda in Ireland have been informed. The search is ongoing". (All quotes according to RTÉ).
