Temperatures are to reach up to 30 degrees in parts of Ireland, as the country is hit with a new Status Yellow high temperature warning.

The warning, which has taken effect from 12pm today until 6am on Friday, includes counties, Kildare, Carlow, Laois, Offaly, Longford, Westmeath, Cavan, Donegal, Munster and all of Connacht, with Met Éireann saying that theses counties are likely to experience temperatures of 30C under this warning.

According to reports yesterday, the mercury hit 29.3C at Shannon Airport, with temperatures cooler in Dublin Airport, which recorded 21.3C.

The national forecaster has said that today will remain dry, as well as sunny and very warm. But a few isolated light showers are expected in the southwest, most likely in the late morning.

According to reports in RTÉ, Met Éireann have also said there is a "chance of an odd shower during the afternoon and evening too". Highest temperatures are to range between 23 and 30 degrees.

As for tonight, it is to remain dry and mild with long clear spells, and lowest temperatures to remain between 13 and 17 degrees.

News of this comes as a six week hosepipe has been announced for six areas around Ireland, coming into effect from 12am. The areas include Dublin, South Tipperary, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow and parts of Kildare. It will remain until August 26.

It was also confirmed that night time restrictions would be in place for 39 water supplies, including parts of Donegal, Cavan, Longford, Meath, Galway, Laois, Tipperary, Limerick, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Kilkenny, and Wexford.

This comes as Uisce Éireann called on people to reduce their non essential water use into to protect their homes, hospitals, vulnerable customers and essential services.

They have said that activities including watering gardens with a hose, washing vehicles and filling paddling pools are banned in order to conserve water. They added that this ban could be lifted if conditions improve or extended if necessary depending on the weather conditions.
