Families planning their next getaway may want to take note, as a new global index has revealed the world’s most family-friendly landmarks, ranking destinations based on how well they cater to visitors with children.
The study analysed more than 200 iconic landmarks worldwide, assessing factors such as accessibility, climate, ticket pricing, online reviews, and the availability of essential family amenities like toilets, baby-changing facilities and nursing areas.
Topping the list is the Grand Canyon South Rim, praised for its accessibility, infrastructure and range of family facilities, making it a standout choice for travellers with children.

In second place is Griffith Observatory, a popular attraction offering interactive exhibits and sweeping views of the city, while remaining both affordable and engaging for younger visitors.

China’s historic Forbidden City takes third spot, with the index highlighting its relatively low-cost family tickets — averaging around £13 (€15) — and child-friendly features such as an on-site treasure hunt.
Coming in fourth is the Taj Mahal, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, followed by the Hassan II Mosque, which rounds out the top five.

Further down the list, destinations across Europe, Asia and North America feature prominently, reflecting a growing global focus on making major attractions more accessible for families.
Among them are Japan’s iconic Fushimi Inari Shrine, known for its striking torii gates, and Nara Park, where children can interact with free-roaming deer.
Portugal also appears twice, with the Pena Palace Gardens and Jerónimos Monastery both recognised.

North America features again with Niagara Falls viewpoints and the National Mall, while Europe’s historic sites including Pompeii Archaeological Site, Sagrada Família, and the Acropolis also rank highly.
Closer to home, Ireland’s Cliffs of Moher places 18th, highlighting its continued appeal as a family-friendly destination with improved visitor facilities and safe viewing areas.

Rounding out the top 20 are scenic and cultural landmarks such as the Palace of Versailles Gardens, Schönbrunn Palace & Gardens, and Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay.
The findings reflect a broader trend in global tourism, where destinations are increasingly adapting to meet the needs of families — balancing cultural significance with practical features that make travelling with children more manageable.
