Two People In Their 70s Killed In Louth Road Collision

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witness after two people were killed with two others were left seriously injured following a road collision in Co Louth.

This collision involved two cars on the R173, The Bush at around 3.10pm yesterday.

A man and a woman, both aged in their 70s were in one of the cars, and were pronounced dead at the scene. The second car saw the driver and passenger, a man and woman both aged in their 30s, airlifted to Beaumont Hospital and the Mater Hospital in Dublin.


The road has since reopened, having closed for technical examination.

Any witness or anyone who had been travelling on the R173 between Dundalk and Carlingford between 2.30pm and 3.30pm yesterday, or may have camera footage including dash-cam, are asked to get in touch with Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400

Yesterday, a total of four people were killed on Irish roads yesterday, after a 24 year old woman from Tipperary died in a hit-and-run incident in Belfast, while a man in his 50s died in a single-vehicle crash in Tipperary.

Overall, 100 people have been killed on Irish roads this year, compared with 90 for the same period in 2025.

In Northern Ireland, 39 people have died on roads, compared with 27 for the same period last year.
