Netflix has announced a new dating reality show with an unusual twist – viewers will get to decide who the groom dates, who gets eliminated and ultimately who he marries.
Will You Marry Me? will see “Britain’s most eligible bachelor” move into a custom-built house with a group of potential brides, as cameras follow their relationships, dates and dramas.
But unlike most dating shows, the contestants will not have complete control over their own journey.
Netflix viewers will be given the power to make the major decisions throughout the series, with audiences voting on who stays, who leaves and which woman makes it to the final.
The show has been described as a mix between Big Brother and Married At First Sight and will consist of 12 live episodes broadcast over four weeks.
The entire series will be filmed in the UK, with the bachelor and his potential brides living together in a custom-built mansion.
According to Netflix, viewers will have a say in “EVERY big decision” and “EVERY dramatic exit” during the series.
The official synopsis reads: “Across four weeks and 12 LIVE episodes one man will hand over TOTAL control to the Netflix viewers to find his true love and ask the audience, ‘Netflix, Will You Marry Me?’
“Get ready for a whirlwind of dates, drama and fairytale romance all leading to one genuine, LIVE televised proposal – the question is who do YOU choose?"
“It’s his life and your choice.”
The series will culminate in a live finale, when the bachelor is expected to propose to his chosen woman in front of the audience.
Netflix teased the concept by saying: “Marriage is a big decision. Why not add a few million more opinions?"
“The thrill of swiping on friends’ dating apps just got amplified.”
Filming is due to begin next year, with the series set to run across 12 live episodes over a four-week period.
More details about the cast, including the identity of the bachelor and the potential brides, are expected to be announced ahead of filming.
For now, Netflix is promising viewers a dating show where they will have an unusually large say in the outcome – right down to the wedding proposal.
