A young child has died following a serious road traffic collision in Co. Donegal on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred shortly before 6.30pm on the R240 at Carrowmore, Glentogher near Carndonagh, and involved a collision between a car and a van.
The young girl, who was a passenger in the car, was fatally injured. Three others travelling in the same car — a woman, a man and another young girl — were rushed to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry where they remain in a serious condition.
No other injuries have been reported.
Gardaí have closed the road to allow Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination. Local diversions are in place, and the road is expected to remain closed overnight.
An appeal has been issued for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage who was travelling in the area between 6pm and 6.30pm to come forward.
