Alison Hammond has received backlash for her response to disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's arrest.
This comes as the disgraced former royal was arrested on Thursday at his Norfolk home, on suspicion of misconduct in public office, where he spent 11 hours in custody. He had been accused of leaking private information to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
Previously, Mountbatten-Windsor was stripped of his royal titles over his association with Epstein, with the latter's accuser Virginia Giuffre had claimed that she engaged in sexual activity with Mountbatten-Windsor when she was 17 years old.
Now, presenter Alison Hammond has been blasted for her "moronic" comment that she made following Andrew's arrest.
During the start of yesterday's episode of This Morning, just minutes after Andrew's arrest, Alison Hammond commented that the arrest did not have to happen on his birthday.
"They could've done it yesterday, the day before his birthday", Alison said, before adding: "It is developing, we don't know very much beyond what you've just said. All we know is that police can tell you".
Hammond's remarks did not go down well with viewers, with some describing her view on Andrew's arrest as "weird".
"'Imagine if Alison was a police officer", one person wrote. "Her boss: "We're arresting Prince Andrew in the morning" Alison: "We can't be doing that bab, it's his birthday tomorrow, he's probably made plans".
"Alison saying "surely they didn't have to arrest him on his birthday,"' one wrote. "What a weird comment about an "alleged" predator".
Andrew has always denied any allegations of wrongdoing.
Following his arrest, the disgraced Duke of York's brother King Charles released this statement.
"I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office", a statement from Buckingham Palace said.
"What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation".
'Let me state clearly: the law must take its course,’ the statement added. ‘'As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all".
