Amy Schumer has confirmed that she and her husband, Chris Fischer, have separated after more than seven years of marriage.

The comedian and actress announced the news in an Instagram post shared on December 12, alongside a photograph of herself, Fischer and their son travelling on the New York City subway. In the message, Schumer said the decision had been mutual and respectful.

“Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years,” she wrote. “We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time.”

She also directly addressed online speculation that had circulated in recent weeks, adding: “Blah blah blah not [because] I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag s basket and not because he’s a hot James Beard award-winning chef who can still pull some hot tail. Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever.”

A source close to the former couple said the separation has been handled privately and without conflict. “There’s nothing ugly. It’s a cohesive split. They’ve just been finalising a few things,” the source said.

Schumer, 44, and Fischer, 45, met in 2017 and married in February 2018. They welcomed their son, Gene, in May 2019. Throughout their relationship, Schumer has frequently spoken about family life, health and motherhood, often sharing candid updates with her followers.

Rumours surrounding the state of their marriage had intensified in recent months. In November, Schumer addressed speculation in an Instagram post connected to her health journey, writing: “Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism.” She added at the time: “Fingers crossed we make it through. He’s the best.”

Days earlier, she had also reassured followers via Instagram Stories that the couple were still together, stating: “And Chris and I are still married.”

In mid-November, Schumer removed older photos from her Instagram account, including images featuring Fischer, later saying the decision was not linked to any major announcement.

The former couple were last seen together publicly in June, when they attended an industry event during the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival.

Neither Schumer nor Fischer has commented further since the announcement, and no legal details have been made public.
