Anne Hathaway had a cheeky response for a fan who couldn't wait to find out the gender of her unborn baby during her latest public appearance.

The actress was appearing at the D23 event when a member of the crowd shouted out a question about her baby's gender.

Rather than giving anything away, Anne simply told the fan: “Oh just be patient, you're gonna find out in like five minutes!”

The moment comes as the 43-year-old continues to face an intense level of public interest in her third pregnancy, with much of the attention focused on her body.

Anne is expecting her third child with her husband Adam Shulman, an actor and producer whom she married in 2012.

It is not the first time in recent weeks that the actress has had to respond to comments about her pregnancy.

Just over a week ago, Anne hit back after social media users bizarrely accused her of wearing a fake pregnancy bump to the red carpet premiere of The End of Oak Street.

The actress attended the premiere in a crop top, with some commenters questioning whether her bump was real.

One person on X wrote: “Anyone in their right mind can clearly see this is a fake pregnancy.”

Another claimed: “Looks like a plastic belly,” while a third asked: “Is this what a fake bump looks like? Why does her tummy look so odd?”

Anne did not get drawn into a lengthy argument with the critics.

Instead, she shared a behind-the-scenes compilation showing herself getting ready for the event and wearing her custom Prabal Gurung look.

Alongside the video, she wrote: “Fake hair, real bump.”

Her short response appeared to put an end to the bizarre speculation, while also highlighting just how closely her changing body is being scrutinised during her pregnancy.

Anne is far from the first famous woman to face accusations that her pregnancy bump is not real.

Back in 2011, Beyoncé was forced to deny similar claims while pregnant with her daughter Blue Ivy.

Speculation erupted after footage appeared to show her bump folding as she sat down during an interview. Her spokesperson dismissed the claims as “stupid, ridiculous and false.”

Selling Sunset star Christine Quinn was similarly targeted, with one person accusing her of pretending to have carried her child herself.

Christine shared a screenshot of the private message she had received, which claimed she had “faked” her pregnancy and accused her of setting “unrealistic expectations” for postpartum mothers.

Responding to the message, Christine said: “Y'all are beyond f***ing sick [...] This is seriously so hurtful.”

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, also faced repeated pregnancy-faking rumours while expecting both of her children.
