The doctor has been the first person to recieve a sentence in the actors overdose death.
Dr Salvador Plasencia was one of five who were charged in a federal investigation examining how Perry acquired the drug through an underground drug network in Hollywood.
Perry, 54, was found dead in his home in Los Angeles in 2023 after struggling with addiction and depression for many years.
The actors family requested a lengthy sentence, they said that struggled to understand why Plasencia continued to supply him with the drug and stated that Plasencia was the most 'culpable' fir the death of Perry.
Suzanne Morrison, Perry's mother was among some of his family members that spoke in court. She referred to a text message that was included in court where Plasencia stated that he wondered how much Perry would pay for drugs and called him a "moron."
Morrison stated in an emotional speech directed to Plasencia, "There was nothing moronic about that man," she said, stating that the doctor took an oath to protect people and he should have protected her son.
Plasencia expressed his guilt in court, he said "I failed myself. There is no excuse. I can't undo what's been done. I know that. I should have protected him, as his mother said. I'm just so sorry."
Plasencia was sentenced to 30 months in prison and fined $5,600. He was immediately taken into custody following the sentencing.
