The first glimpse of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is finally here, and fans have plenty to get excited about.

It has been confirmed that Cillian Murphy will reprise his iconic role as Jim from the original 2002 hit 28 Days Later.

The Bone Temple serves as the follow-up to Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, which hit cinemas earlier this year. While Murphy’s character does not appear in the new trailer, details about how he fits into the story remain under wraps.

The teaser brings back familiar faces, including Jack O’Connell as Sir Jimmy Crystal, Alfie Williams as Spike, and Ralph Fiennes as Dr. Kelson. The film continues the saga of Crystal’s sinister cult while exploring Kelson’s backstory in more depth.

According to the official synopsis: “A messenger on a bicycle awakens from a coma to find the world overrun by zombies after a deadly virus outbreak.”

The Bone Temple was filmed back-to-back with 28 Years Later and will see Nia DaCosta taking the director’s seat, with Danny Boyle returning as producer.

The film is set to hit Irish cinemas on January 16, 2026.
