Coronation Street legend Helen Worth is set to return to the cobbles ahead of a drama-filled Christmas Day special.
Worth, better known for playing Gail Platt for 50 years on the soap, is set to return for this episode, having departed the Cobbles in December last year. The character departed Weatherfield after marrying her sixth husband, Jesse played by John Thompson, before setting off for France with her new love.
Now, an insider has said that Gail is set to take a trip back to Manchester as she tries to help her family avert yet another crisis.
"Corrie bosses are keeping the exact details under wraps, but it’s understood she takes the chance on Christmas Day to connect with the family", an insider told The Sun. "It could be more timely as the Platts find themselves in yet another drama, one that they've had to deal with by themselves since the Platts' matriarch moved abroad".
They added: "It's a move which is guaranteed to thrill soap fans, who wondered whether we'd ever catch a glimpse of show favourite Gail on the cobbles again".
Helen Worth had first confirmed her departure from Coronation Street last June. Find out more on this story here.
She had previously had hinted at a possible return, writing: "There’ll be more Platt stories, and I hope you’ll be watching".
