Daniel Radcliffe has revealed that he sent a letter to the young actor taking on the role of Harry Potter in the upcoming TV adaptation.
Radcliffe said that Dominic McLaughlin, who will portray the boy wizard in HBO’s reboot, replied to his letter with “a very sweet note.” Radcliffe, who is now thirty-six, was the same age as eleven-year-old Dominic when he started filming the infamous Harry Potter series. The series is expected to play out over the next ten years, having commenced in July of this year! HBO plans to adapt each of the seven novels into its own individual season... Filming locations will be taking place across the UK in places such as London Zoo, King's Cross Station, and Hertfordshire.
Speaking on Good Morning America, Radcliffe explained that he reached out to McLaughlin shortly after the child actor was cast in the lead role. Radcliffe, who was also 11 when he began filming the original Harry Potter movie, wished the new star and his castmates all the best. In the note, he wishes Dominic the best and hopes he has "an even better time" playing the character than he did over the years.”
From 4:40 minutes into the clip, you can watch Radcliffe's humble reaction to being referred to as "the gold standard", as well as the presenters question that suggested anyone who goes to play the iconic role of Harry Potter "has to say, well I'll have to call you, and see what you?". Insinuating that Radcliffe would have to approve or disapprove the selection, he replied by saying "I wouldn't say that anyone who's going to play Harry has to do that.
Radcliffe also said, "I just see those pictures of him and all the other kids and I just want to like I just want to hug them. They just seem so young and I do look at them and I go like, 'Oh it's crazy that I was dong that at that age'. But it's also like incredibly sweet and I hope they're having a great time"
In the same interview, Radcliffe shared his admiration and support for his former Potter co-star Tom Felton, who recently returned to the role of Draco Malfoy in the Broadway production of the Harry Potter sequel play The Cursed Child. “I’m so happy, I’m really excited that he’s part of this, that he’s on Broadway and in the show”, Radcliffe said.
