Derry Girls Siobhan McSweeney Among Stars To Head To Kerry For New Comedy Film

The Derry Girls star to to feature alongside household names including Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Imelda Staunton (The Crown), and EIleen Walsh (Catastrophe) in a new comedy film called West The Road, directed by Ita Fitzgerald, making her debut as a director.

West The Road will mark Fitzgerald's first movie as a director, having previously worked on TV series Doctors, along with a number of award winning shorts. She has described this as "a dream come true to work with these amazing and talented women".

West The Road tells "the hilarious and heartfelt story of a group of women brought together by the death of their childhood friend Margaret", according to a synopsis.

"When they discover that Margaret was forced to give her daughter up for adoption at the age of 15, the group embark on a journey from the West of Ireland up the Wild Atlantic coastline - accompanied by a donkey called Thatcher - in search of the child so that Margaret's mother, Bridie, can meet the grandchild she never knew she had", it also added.

"What follows is a story about friendship, love and the unstoppable resolve of women as they rediscover the joy of living". 

West The Road's production will also be supported by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, with Dublin company Cowtown Pictures among its producers.
