One of Ireland’s favourite television shows returns tonight as Celebrity Gogglebox Ireland brings together some of the biggest names from the worlds of television, sport, comedy and entertainment for a night of laughs, revelations and plenty of unfiltered reactions.
The celebrity special airs at 9pm tonight on Virgin Media One and Virgin Media PLAY, with a host of familiar faces settling into their couches to share their thoughts on some of the biggest and most talked-about television moments of the week.
Viewers can expect plenty of memorable moments as the celebrity households watch everything from MasterChef, featuring Una Healy, and The 1% Club, to the Netflix documentary Untold: Raygun: Breaking Badly and reality series Love Overboard.
There will also be plenty of Irish pride as the celebrities watch coverage of Katie Taylor’s victory in Croke Park, while classic thriller Misery leaves several of the households shocked by some of its most gruesome scenes.
Ryan Tubridy and Mark Wogan share a particularly touching moment as they look back on The Late Late Show and reflect on Mark’s late father, broadcasting legend Terry Wogan. Ryan even offers to serve Mark an egg in his Terry Wogan egg cup.
Elsewhere, Lottie Ryan gives Brian Dowling a glimpse of her Dancing with the Stars trophy before the pair find themselves debating the correct name for a cream bun.
Siobhán McSweeney and her best friend Jess provide plenty of laughs as they discuss the unexpected usefulness of bras as accidental food catchers, while Love Island star Lola Deal leaves her fellow couch companions stunned when she reveals she once believed leprechauns were not mythical creatures, but a breed of Irish people.
Eric Roberts also causes a stir when he reveals that he has no sense of smell, prompting Elaine Crowley and Karen Byrne to wonder whether he can actually smell air.
The celebrities get competitive during The 1% Club, playing along from their couches, while Una Healy’s appearance on MasterChef sparks a debate over whether the Irish singer was judged more harshly than her fellow contestants. The discussion soon turns to another Irish favourite – the spice bag – with the households passionately defending the popular takeaway dish.
The mood takes a more serious turn during BBC documentary Stolen Babies, which prompts Dr Katriona O’Sullivan to reflect on her own experience of entering a mother and baby home in England at the age of 15 after becoming pregnant.
The episode will also celebrate the life and legacy of Dolly Parton, as the celebrities reflect on the music icon’s remarkable career and enduring popularity.
