Coronation Street legend Sue Cleaver has landed a new role, just days after her departure from the cobbles.
The actress who has played Eileen Grimshaw since 2000, aired her final episode last Friday, as her character left for a new life in Thailand with her son Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas), having broken up with her partner, George Shuttleworth, played by Tony Maudsley.
Cleaver had first confirmed her exit back in January, saying that she was still keeping the "door open" to return to the street in the future.
The actress also stated that she wanted to try new things.
"I've had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street", Cleaver said. "The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly".
Now, it has been confirmed that Sue Cleaver has joined the cast of Snake In The Grass at the Theatr Clwyd and Octagon Theatre, Bolton. This show will see Cleaver star alongside Lisa Zahra and Nicola Stephenson when the production begins this Autumn.
"We’re sad to bid farewell to the wonderful Sue Cleaver", Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks said a few months ago. "Over the past 25 years, Eileen Grimshaw has been at the heart of some of the most memorable and iconic Corrie storylines, and her onscreen rivalry with Gail Platt will undoubtedly go down in Corrie folklore".
"There’s certainly no-one quite like Eileen, and her character will be hugely missed on the cobbles. We wish Sue all the very best as she embarks on her next exciting chapter".
