Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts has announced that she is expecting her first child.

Roberts, who is best known for being a member of the band alongside Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle, Cheryl and the late Sarah Harding, shared the happy news on Christmas Day, confirming that she is expecting her first child with footballer, Mitch Hahn.

Taking on Instagram along with a series of photographs including one holding her baby bump in front of a Christmas tree, Nicola Roberts added: "Mitch and I have had the most magical Christmas Day sharing the most precious news with our families".

"We've been keeping a secret", she added. "We are five months pregnant! We can't wait to meet our little one in the spring".

Roberts' post was met with a huge number of congratulatory messages from a host of celebrities, including Rochelle Humes, Laura Whitmore, Rylan Clark, and Alan Carr.

"Amazing news!! Sending you much love!", Carr wrote, while former Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards, who is pregnant with her second child, wrote under the post: "Oh my goodnesssss! The best news. Congratulations beautiful!".

Nicola Roberts was part of Girls Aloud, who were renowned for hits including, 'I'll Stand By You', 'Sound Of The Underground', and 'The Promise'. They formed through the TV talent show: Pop Stars: The Rivals in 2002.

Last year, the band reunited for an arena tour across Ireland and the UK, as they celebrated their legacy and paid tribute to their late bandmate Sarah Harding, who passed away from breast cancer aged 39 in 2021.

At the time, Roberts paid a moving tribute to Harding, sharing this emotional message via Instagram.

“I’m absolutely devastated and I can’t accept that this day has come", Roberts wrote.

She added, “My heart is aching and all day everything we went through together has raced round my mind. Especially this last year since her diagnosis, as hard as the year has been, our new memories are strong in my heart. There are so many things to say and at first it felt to personal to put them here and then I remembered that there are so many other people grieving her too. A part of me or us isn’t here anymore and it’s unthinkable and painful and utterly cruel. She would have loved your messages today".

"You made us" Roberts concluded. “You gave it everything and still with a smile. A white butterfly flew past my window this morning before I knew, it must have been you".
