Brendan O'Carroll has announced that the Christmas and New Year's specials for Mrs Brown's Boys have been cancelled.
The show's creator confirmed this news in a statement, after revealing that he is to face an "unexpected medical issue". He said that the recordings will not be going ahead as he needs "immediate surgery".
"It is with sincere regret I must announce that due to an unexpected medical issue I will have to cancel the recordings of the 2026 Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas and New Year’s Specials", O'Carroll said in a statement according to PA news agency. "Following a CT Scan, it was found that I had two fractures in my mandible (jaw) which requires immediate surgery and a few months recovery".
Brendan O'Carroll also revealed that his Mrs Brown's Boys D'Panto? shows, which were scheduled for Dublin and Killarney for later this year, would also be cancelled.
"This decision has not been taken lightly and has been made on medical advice from my consultant," he continued.
"To say I am heartbroken is an absolute understatement", he added. "I would like to sincerely apologise to all our fans who were looking forward to seeing the shows and for any disappointment caused".
O'Carroll also explained that he has been working closely with MCD Productions to reschedule the shows for next year. He added that he had also been speaking with the BBC about getting the TV series "back on the screen" in 2027.
He went on to thank the BBC and MCD for their "support and understanding at this difficult time".
The comedian assured fans that he is still focusing on getting himself "back to full health", and that he is "genuinely cannot wait to see you all again in 2027".
"Our fans mean the world to us, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support and trust me, Agnes Brown and her family will be back".
