Jennifer Lawrence has issued a warning to Instagram trolls after joining the social media platform for the first time.

The 36-year-old actress created a public Instagram account on Wednesday and quickly gained more than 1.8 million followers.

In her first video post, Lawrence made it clear that she may not stick around if she encounters negative comments.

"I'm giving it a shot, and if anyone says anything negative, I will quit immediately. No questions asked. If anyone thinks something mean, I'll know. I'll know and I'll quit."

The actress also addressed her followers through her Instagram Story, asking them to be careful about what they post.

"Please be mindful that any mean or aggressive comments can negatively affect the baby. It's me. I'm the baby."

Lawrence's new account has already attracted plenty of attention, with several famous faces welcoming her to Instagram.

Among those commenting were Emily In Paris actress Lily Collins, Chicken Shop Date host Amelia Dimoldenberg and Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp.

Lawrence has previously spoken about how she has struggled with the way she has been perceived by the public.

Last year, she reflected on some of her older interviews and admitted that she now finds her younger, more energetic personality embarrassing.

She said her behaviour was partly a defence mechanism as she tried to deal with sudden fame.

"I look at those interviews, and that person is annoying. I get why seeing that person everywhere would be annoying."

Lawrence also said she felt she had been rejected by the public because of her personality rather than her acting.

"I felt — I didn't feel, I was, I think — rejected not for my movies, not for my politics, but for me, for my personality."

The actress became widely known after her breakthrough performance in the 2010 film Winter's Bone, which earned her nominations at the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and Academy Awards.

She went on to become a global star as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games franchise.

Lawrence later won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook in 2013.

Her other credits include X-Men: First Class, Causeway, No Hard Feelings and Die My Love.

She also founded her own production company, Excellent Cadaver, in 2018.

For now, Lawrence is giving Instagram a chance — but judging by her first post, followers have been warned to keep the comments kind.
