Jessie Buckley and Saoirse Ronan are set to share the big screen in a major new international feature, marking another milestone moment for the two acclaimed Irish actors.

The pair will lead an adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger’s bestselling illustrated novel Three Incestuous Sisters, joining an all-star ensemble that also includes Dakota Johnson and Josh O’Connor. The project is already generating significant buzz within the industry, with filming scheduled to begin in April.

Directed by acclaimed Italian filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher, the film will be loosely inspired by Niffenegger’s Gothic-style novel. Rohrwacher co-wrote the screenplay with author Ottessa Moshfegh. While specific plot details remain tightly under wraps, the creative team’s involvement has heightened anticipation around the adaptation.

The film will be financed and produced by Indian Paintbrush, with Johnson and Ro Donnelly producing under their TeaTime Pictures banner alongside Steven Rales. Rohrwacher will also serve as a producer.

For Buckley and Ronan, the collaboration brings together two of Ireland’s most celebrated screen talents. Buckley recently earned widespread acclaim for her performance in Hamnet, which secured her a Best Actress Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win. She is also set to appear in The Bride opposite Christian Bale.

Ronan, meanwhile, has been riding high on strong reviews for The Outrun. She is currently filming a Sam Mendes-directed Beatles project in which she portrays Linda McCartney, further cementing her reputation as one of the most versatile actors of her generation.

Their co-stars are equally in demand. Johnson recently appeared in Materialists alongside Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal, as well as in Daddio opposite Sean Penn. O’Connor was most recently seen in Wake Up Dead Man, the latest installment in the Knives Out franchise, and will next star opposite Emily Blunt in Steven Spielberg’s forthcoming UFO drama Disclosure Day.

Rohrwacher’s most recent feature, La Chimera (2023), which also starred O’Connor and Isabella Rossellini, premiered in competition at Cannes and was named one of the top five international films of the year by the National Board of Review. She is also set to receive the 2026 European Film Academy Achievement in World Cinema Award.

With a powerhouse cast and an award-winning creative team at the helm, the adaptation of Three Incestuous Sisters is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated productions of the coming year.
