Kristen Bell wouldn’t change everything about her love life — but she’s candid about wishing she’d taken a few more chances before settling down. On the Sept. 29 episode of Armchair Expert (where she appeared alongside costar Justine Lupe), she reflected on her younger years and admitted: “I just wish I butterflied around a little bit more.”
She went on to rate her pre-settling-down sex life as a “four out of ten,” adding, “I just wish I maybe would have gone six.”
Bell, now 45, has been married to Dax Shepard since 2013. Together they have two daughters — Lincoln, aged 12, and Delta, aged 10. Though she looks back with some wistfulness, she’s clear she doesn’t regret choosing Dax: she frequently credits foundational trust as a core pillar of their relationship.
“Even if Dax hooks up with the most beautiful person in the world at work, I know he's committed to our family. I know he's coming home. I know he loves our children. I know he strives to be a great husband and father.”
Like any couple, they admit moments of insecurity arise. But they navigate them with open communication. As Kristen put it: “We’re just human, right? So maybe there could be a day where I’m like, ‘I’m actually really nervous that you spend time with that person.’ He could say, ‘Oh, OK, let’s talk about it. What makes you nervous? What are you thinking?’ We have a very open communication.”
Their contrasting personalities also play a role in their dynamic. Kristen told E! in 2024: “I married my polar opposite. We are the antithesis of each other. We argue about absolutely everything, but there is a foundational trust that we've built that keeps us together and is quite stimulated by one another's opinions.”
And she added a reflection that might resonate with many readers: “Being with someone who you are unlike or you don’t have a ton of similarities with … it forces you to grow.”
