It was revealed last week that Bonham Carter woud be leaving the series despite being confirmed for the role just a few months ago. HBO confirmed her departure in a statement, they said: “It has become apparent that the character which [series creator] Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set. The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten, and will be recast in the coming weeks, HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
The news that Dern will be joning the cast was announced on Instagram. She will be starring alongside Steve Coogan, Chris Messina and Marissa Long. Dern has previously worked with the shows creator, Mike White, for films The Dog (2007) and Enlightened (2011). Details of her character are yet to be released.
The White Lotus follows the exploits of guests and staff at a fictional luxury resort. The next series has been reported to be carried out in the French Riviera, in Saint-Tropez. Previous series have taken place in in resorts in Hawaii and Sicily.

Fans of the series are thrilled with the news of Dern joinng the cast. Comments under the announcement post read: "WE ARE SAVED" and "can you hear me screaming from the east coast." "I’m screaming we got Laura Dern ❤️" another fan wrote.
Previously announced cast members are: Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani and Nadia Tereszkiewicz. Additional cast includes Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer and Laura Smet.
Just last week HBO confirmed that The White Lotus was in production.
