Lena Dunham's hit series, Girls, is to return for a limited run.
The sitcom, which launched on HBO in 2012, was based on four millennial friends as they try to navigate through New York City. It has been credited with launching the careers of Adam Driver, Alison Williams and of course, Lena Dunham.
Production for the series is to begin next year, returning for a five episode run, starring Dunham as Hannah Horvath, Williams playing Marnie Michaels, Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna, Jemima Kirke playing Jessa and Andrew Rannells as Elijah.
At the time of writing, it was not confirmed if Adam Driver would reprise his role as Adam Sackler for this series. Sackler was Hannah Horvath's on again off again boyfriend in the show.
News of the show's return was confirmed on Tuesday when a video was shared on social media featuring the original four.
"OK. So we used to spend like every summer together, you know, doing this thing that we do, making this show. And is it something that you would want to do again? Are you are you free next summer?", Dunham said.
"Are you in?"
As they all agreed to this, Rannells popped up in the video call and added: "I’m in, but only because you trash cans need constant supervision".
Dunham signs off on the call with a final question: "Seriously, can we still call it Girls? Cause we’re like old as ****". (Quotes according to RTÉ).

Prior to this, Lena Dunham had spearheaded Netflix hit, Too Much, which was about a 30 something American woman who relocates to London and falls in love with a British musician, akin her life and romance to her husband, Luis Felber, who she married in 2021.
Last year, it was also confirmed that the 1999 hit, ‘10 Things I Hate About You’ would get its own Broadway Musical, led by Lena Dunham, alongside singer, Carly Rae Jepson. More on this here.
