Actress, Liza Minnelli is to release her new memoir next month.
Minnelli, whose parents were the late movie star, Judy Garland and director Vincenti Minnelli leaves it all out there in this book, from her various marriages to her tricky upbringing. She was born in 1946, with Garland and Minnelli had embarked on a relationship while working on the classic movie, Meet Me In St Louis.
The director was the second of Garland's five husbands, in a rocky personal life for the Wizard of Oz star, which include years of battles with addiction.
Looking back on her childhood in her memoir, Liza Minnelli spoke about when she was 13 years old, she would help her mother, who suffered with addiction to drugs, renew her supply of prescription drugs.
"At 13, I was my mother’s caretaker - a nurse, doctor, pharmacologist, and psychiatrist rolled into one", she wrote, according to People. "I lost count of the times I called doctors to say she’d run out of pills. I’d say: “I’m a kid! Please fill my mama’s prescription!"'.
She also went on to reveal that she became a somewhat protector of her mother, as she tried to shield her from the public eye as she battled these personal demons.
Minnelli also speaks about striking out on her to pursue a career as a Broadway star, but still continued to work alongside her mother with a run of concerts at the London Palladium in 1963. She also writes about getting her big break in the 1965 musical, Flora, The Red Menace, with songs written by future friends and collaborators, Fred Ebb and John Kander.
Minnelli also bares her soul about her various marriages, including the time she caught her former Peter Allen being intimate with a man in their bed.
In the book, Minnelli reportedly writes about "returning early from an indulgent shopping spree, I walked into our apartment and found Peter having passionate sex. With a man. In our bed!".
However despite ultimately divorcing, the pair remained close friends until Allen's death in 1992.
Overall, Minnelli was married four times, including Allen. Other former spouses include Jack Haley Jr, Mark Gero, and David Guest.
Liza Minnelli's memoir, Kids Wait Till You Hear This, arrives on March 10.
