Margot Robbie has opened up about one distinctly Irish tradition she discovered thanks to Colin Farrell.
The Australian actress, who stars alongside Farrell in the upcoming romantic fantasy A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, will appear with him on tonight’s season premiere of The Late Late Show to promote the film.
Directed by Kogonada, the movie also features Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag fame and Hollywood veteran Kevin Kline. Robbie, who recently returned to work after welcoming her first child last year, shared some insights into her experience working with the Dublin-born actor.
Speaking to SPIN 1038 at the film’s premiere last night at Leicester Square’s Odeon Deluxe in London, Robbie revealed how Farrell introduced her to a truly iconic piece of Irish culture: Tayto crisps. Not just happy to share them, Farrell apparently made the ultimate Irish treat for Margot, to bring to her trailer every day.
“Tayto chips. A new discovery for me. He [Colin Farrell] would make me a chippy [crisp] sandwich every single day and put it in my trailer when I’d get to work. So yeah, I’m definitely a convert to Tayto Sandwiches.” – Margot Robbie, SPIN 1038
In addition to tasting local flavors, Robbie also attempts an Irish accent in the film—a move that has drawn some playful criticism from Irish audiences. She plays Sarah, whose path crosses with Farrell’s character David on the way to a wedding, sparking a whimsical adventure guided by GPS.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is set to hit cinemas on Friday, September 19.
