The Irish were proudly represented at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards, as stars from across film, television and reality TV made their mark on one of Hollywood’s most glamorous red carpets.
Among the standout appearances was Maura Higgins, who made a surprise debut at the prestigious ceremony as awards season officially kicked into high gear. The Longford native was one of the first to arrive at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, instantly drawing attention with a striking old Hollywood-inspired look.
The Traitors US star turned heads in an off-the-shoulder black crepe gown by MarMar Halim, featuring an internal corset and priced at €2,551. She elevated the look further with a dramatic gold cape, which trailed behind her throughout the A-list event. Styled by Maeve Reilly, Maura completed her ensemble with Le Vian jewellery and Flor De Maria Berta platform heels, costing €430. While no stranger to red carpets, the 35-year-old marked her first-ever appearance at the Golden Globes, later sharing behind-the-scenes moments from the night on Instagram.
Irish acting talent also shone on the night, led by Jessie Buckley, who took home the Best Actress award for her role in Hamnet. The Killarney native stunned in a baby blue Dior gown, opting for a minimalist approach with matching heels and understated jewellery. Accepting her award, Jessie admitted she was overwhelmed by the moment, saying “this is not a normal feeling or situation to be in.”
Meanwhile, Paul Mescal cut a dashing figure in a classic tuxedo as he attended in support of Hamnet. The Oscar-nominated actor was shortlisted for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, though the award ultimately went to Stellan Skarsgård.
Beyond the red carpet, Maura Higgins has been making headlines stateside thanks to her appearance on The Traitors US on Peacock. The reality TV star recently clashed with actor Michael Rapaport during a tense roundtable exchange, after questioning his choice of words when discussing eliminated contestants. “Why did you say ‘we got rid of’?” Maura asked, before pressing further with “Does that mean you’re a Traitor?”
Fans praised her fearless approach, with many taking to social media to applaud her confidence and quick wit.
As Hollywood’s awards season gathers momentum, Irish stars are once again proving they can more than hold their own—both on screen and on the red carpet.
