The trailer is now the most viewed trailer for a music biopic film and is considered the largest trailer launch in Lionsgate history according to statistics from WaveMetrix.
'Michael' has now surpassed the trailer for Taylor Swifts film 'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour' and Bob Marley's biopic 'Bob Marley:One Love'.
The film is set to be released in April 2026 and will feature Michael Jacksons nephew Jaafar Jackson playing the lead role.
“I’m humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life, to all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon,” Jaafar Jackson posted to Instagram.
Producer Graham King told Variety in 2023,“I met Jaafar over two years ago and was blown away by the way he organically personifies the spirit and personality of Michael." He expressed that Jaafar was a clear choice for the role after a long and extensive audition process.
“It was something so powerful that even after conducting a worldwide search, it was clear that he is the only person to take on this role. I am beyond thrilled that he has come on board to portray his uncle and cannot wait for the world to see him on the big screen as Michael Jackson," King stated.
According to The Guardian, director Antoine Fuqua stated that he promises to "tell the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world”.
