Miley Cyrus has opened up her decade long feud with her father Billy Ray Cyrus, and about how her family have repaired their relationships.
In what has been described by Cyrus as a "dark decade", it was revealed that the singer had reportedly cut ties with her father amid this ongoing "feud" following her parents' divorce that same year, after almost three decades together.
Speaking with Monica Lewinsky on her podcast, Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky, Miley Cyrus opened up about escaping a "dark decade" for her family, and how they have worked to make their peace with each other.
"Half of us weren't speaking to each other at one point, and we cleaned all that up," she said. "That was a really important part of my year this year, was all of my family putting those lines of communication back together. A lot because of, you know, I had a lot of loyalty to my mom, the way that families do when parents get divorced".
Cyrus continued: "In that situation, I watched what happens when you don't clean things up as they’re happening".
"They really do stack, and then all of a sudden you go, 'Oh my God, it's been 10 years, and this is a mess that I barely even know how to start. This is like emotional hoarding".
On overcoming these barriers, Cyrus explained: "As we start bringing some happiness and joy into each other's life, then we’ll just be in a better place to have these conversations. 'Cause I’d rather get it balanced first".
Miley Cyrus' parents Billy Ray and Tish tied the knot in 1993, and shared three children together, Miley, Braison and Noah, as well as Tish's children from a previous marriage, Brandi and Trace.
Billy Ray Cyrus is currently in a relationship with actress Elizabeth Hurley. The couple have been dating since last year, with Hurley opening up about the couple's romance back in May. More on this here.
