A new spin off series of Grey's Anatomy is in the works, according to reports.
The new series, which will be set in in rural Texas, will be co created by Bridgerton's Shonda Rhimes, who had also created Grey's Anatomy. It will also see Ellen Pompeo serve as executive producer, along with Betsy Beers.
At the time of writing, it was yet to be confirmed if this spin off show will overlap with the show's previous storyline, or if Meredith or any of the cast will reprise their respective roles for this spin off show, which is set to run for an hour.
However, a logline for the series has described the series as: "An edgy drama about a team at a West Texas rural medical centre - the last chance for care before miles of nowhere".
"I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey's Anatomy universe", executive producer, Meg Marinis said: "This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from "Grey's" for more than two decades - all set in my hometown of Texas".
Marinis added: "I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be part of it".
The new series is set for release in the 2026/2027 broadcasting series.
Back in February, tributes were paid to the late Grey's Anatomy star, Eric Deane, who passed away from cancer aged 53.
The actor's death was confirmed by his family who released a statement, confirming that Deane had died following a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS", they said.
His representatives added that he spent his final days “surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the centre of his world".
A number of co stars paid tribute to Eric Deane, including Kevin McKidd, and Kim Raver among others. Find out more here.
