Niall Horan has spoken candidly about fame, gratitude and staying grounded, admitting that he still views every arena crowd through the same lens he did at the very beginning of One Direction’s rise.

Former One Direction singer made the comments during a wide-ranging interview recorded for a branded podcast project, in which he reflected on how success, touring and years in the spotlight have shaped his outlook on life and music.

Despite more than a decade at the top of the industry, Horan said he has never lost sight of how fragile success can be — or how much it depends on fans continuing to show up.

“We had this thing the whole way through our career, and I still have it now, where we're just happy to be anywhere,” he said. “I look out at these arenas full of people and think, this would literally be an empty room if you didn’t buy tickets. You have to hold onto that feeling. If you lose gratitude, you're done. That mindset kept us grounded from day one, and it still keeps me grounded now.”

The remark offers a rare glimpse into how Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne navigated the unprecedented scale of their success as teenagers, selling out stadiums around the world almost overnight. While the group went on to become one of the most commercially successful boybands in history, Horan suggested their attitude behind the scenes was shaped by a deep awareness that it could all disappear.

That same outlook, he said, continues to guide him as a solo artist today, as he balances arena tours with the more personal process of writing and recording new music.

Horan also spoke about the pressure artists face to constantly chase trends — and why he has learned to trust his own instincts instead.

“You have to go and find what feels like you — what comes out of your mouth naturally and doesn’t feel forced,” he explained. “That takes time. You write songs that don’t fit, you chase ideas that feel wrong, and then eventually you recognize the sound that’s yours. People can tell immediately when something isn’t authentic.”

For Horan, that process of self-discovery has been just as important as commercial success. After moving from the tightly controlled environment of a global pop group into a solo career, he said understanding his own musical voice became essential.

“So much of being an artist is just knowing yourself well enough to trust what feels right,” he added.

The interview was released as part of a promotional podcast series produced by Whoop, a fitness and wellness technology company with which Horan has a commercial relationship. However, the most revealing moments focused less on lifestyle metrics and more on the emotional reality of living in the public eye.

For fans who have followed him since his X Factor days, the comments underline how deeply Horan still connects his success to the people who supported him from the beginning — and how determined he is not to lose that perspective.

WATCH: Louis Tomlinson Discusses Liam Payne Death In Exclusive Podcast Appearance

In a deeply emotional appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Louis Tomlinson opened up about pivotal moments in his life, including the tragic death of his One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne, and the band's eventual split. The interview, released on October 8, 2025, offered fans an intimate glimpse into Tomlinson's personal experiences and reflections.

On Learning of Liam Payne's Death

Tomlinson recounted the moment he learned of Liam Payne's passing, revealing that fellow bandmate Niall Horan was the one to inform him. He shared, “I think Niall said something like, ‘Have you seen the news?’ and I knew as soon as he said that,” indicating the gravity of the situation. Reflecting on Payne's struggles, Tomlinson expressed feelings of inadequacy in his attempts to support his friend, stating, “My 150 percent wasn’t nearly enough... It was so much deeper than what I could’ve done for him.” He described Payne's death as “unjust” and “frustrating,” emphasizing the profound impact it had on him.

On the Breakup of One Direction

Discussing the band's split, Tomlinson described the atmosphere during their final meeting as “cold” and “empty,” noting that it felt as though they were merely going through the motions. He recalled, “It almost might as well have been [our] representatives.” This sentiment highlighted the lack of camaraderie and the emotional distance that had developed among the group members.

On Zayn Malik's Departure

Reflecting on Zayn Malik's departure from the band in 2015, Tomlinson admitted to feeling “absolutely crushed” by the sudden exit. He expressed a desire to know if Malik ever regretted his decision, stating, “He must miss it... Like, he must.” Despite their past differences, Tomlinson acknowledged the bond they shared and the impact of Malik's absence on the group dynamic.

On the Possibility of a Reunion

When asked about the prospect of a One Direction reunion, Tomlinson responded cautiously. While he didn't entirely rule it out, he expressed reservations, particularly in light of recent events. He remarked, “Never say never,” but added, “I can’t ever imagine... I’m not sure it would be right to [after Liam’s death].” This indicates that while the idea isn't completely off the table, the emotional weight of recent losses makes the prospect challenging.
