The UK media regulator Ofcom has launched an investigation into Channel 4's Married At First Sight UK.
In a recent statement, Ofcom revealed that they were investigating "a fairness and privacy complaint" about the prime-time show.
The exact reason for the investigation is not yet known, however, it comes just two months after two women made allegations of rape and a third of sexual misconduct by their on-screen husbands.
The news of the assaults were revealed in a BBC Panorama documentary that aired in May.
The three men accused have denied the claims.
Individuals who appear in television or radio programmes can submit fairness or privacy complaints to Ofcom if they believe they were treated unfairly.
According to the BBC, the regulator is currently considering a complaint from a cast member of Married at First Sight UK, alleging unfair treatment. It is assumed that one other former cast member has lodged a similar complaint with Ofcom over their treatment on the programme. However, the regulator rejected the complaint, concluding that the broadcaster had no case to answer.
An Ofcom spokesperson said complaints of this nature are assessed "on a case-by-case basis through a detailed and careful assessment process".
The BBC revealed that in a letter to MP's in June, Ofcom confirmed that they would examine the findings of the Channel 4 review and "urgently" consider whether further action is required.
Following the documentary, the regulator called the exposed allegations "shocking and deeply disturbing."
Married At First Sight is a social experiment aired on television. The show sees single strangers "marry" each other after meeting for the first time at their mock weddings.
In May, Channel 4 pulled episodes of the show from the streaming services just "hours ahead of the transmission of the Panorama investigation," according to the BBC.
However, no decision has been made on whether the latest series of the show will be broadcast.
