Paul Mescal has said that he is keen to "fundamentally" protect his relationship with girlfriend Gracie Abrams.
The actor was first romantically linked to the US singer in June last year, after they were spotted in London together. Abrams also attended the premiere of Mescal's movie, The History of Sound at the Cannes Film Festival.
In a recent interview, Normal People star Mescal, 29, was asked if there was a particular moment which made the pair decide to make their relationship public.
"I don't know how to answer that. I actually do have an answer, but everything to do with that is deeply precious to me... I want to protect those things fundamentally", Mescal said.
The Maynooth native also expressed a desire to have a family some day.
"I love babies with very adult names," he said. "I would love to have a family. I'm not like, 'I want them tomorrow,’ but I would love to have kids".
Elsewhere, Mescal also spoke about the intense preparations he has has undergone ahead of playing Paul McCartney in the upcoming series of biopics about the Fab Four, directed by Sam Mendes.
"I don't think I’m chill, generally. When I’m around people that I love and feel safe, I like being silly - it’s a feeling that I don’t get a lot, and I like that - but I think, for the most part, I’m... maybe not intense, but slightly obsessive," he stated.
"I’m obsessed with the Beatles at the moment. It’s part of my job, but it’s also the way that my brain is wired. I’m excited about listening to music, writing music, absorbing music, going to shows, all of these things - they start with an intensity with the job and then kind of become my personality for a bit".
This comes weeks after the new trailer for the upcoming Oscar tipped thriller, Hamnet, starring Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley was released. Check that out here.
