French actor Pierre Deny, who appeared in Netflix hit series Emily in Paris, has died at the age of 69 following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Deny passed away on Monday due to complications linked to the disease, according to a statement released by his daughters to AFP.
“It is with deep emotion that we announce the passing of Pierre Deny, which occurred this Monday following a sudden and severe case of ALS.”
The actor was best known internationally in recent years for his role in Emily in Paris, where he portrayed Louis de Léon, the CEO of fictional luxury fashion giant JVMA.
Deny appeared in seasons three and four of the popular Netflix series alongside star Lily Collins, becoming part of the show’s expanding cast of French business and fashion figures.

Outside of Emily in Paris, Deny enjoyed a long and respected career in French film, television and theatre spanning several decades.
ALS, also known as motor neurone disease, is a progressive neurological condition that affects nerve cells controlling muscle movement. The illness gradually impacts mobility, speech and breathing.
Tributes have begun pouring in online from fans and members of the French entertainment industry following news of his death.
Many viewers of Emily in Paris remembered Deny for bringing authority and sophistication to the role of Louis de Léon, one of the key corporate figures within the series’ luxury fashion world.
Netflix and representatives for Emily in Paris had not publicly commented at the time of writing.
