Close friends of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele have paid tribute to the late couple, sharing how much in love they were, right until the very end.
The couple were found dead at their home in Los Angeles earlier this week. They were pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered stab wounds, with the LA Police Department treating the case as a homicide.
Since then, it was confirmed that the couple's son Nick Reiner was arrested and charged with murder, with the police still insisting that the investigation into Rob and Michele's deaths remains ongoing. He was taken to a Los Angeles jail earlier this week, and was held on $4 million bail at Parker Center Jail.
If he is found guilty, prosecutors have said that the charges could carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.
Following the tragic news regarding their deaths, close friends have paid tribute to them.
"We had dinner this past week and they were in the best place in the their lives," said Maria Shriver. "Loving one another, loving their friends, their family, their country".
They met when director Rob Reiner was working on classic 'When Harry Met Sally', where Michele was working as a photographer. So profound was this meeting that Reiner changed the movie's ending.
"The original ending of the film that we had was that Harry and Sally didn't get together," Rob had said about the movie. "I met my wife Michele, who I've been married to now 35 years, while we were making the film and I changed the ending".
As it turned out, one of the most romantic movies of all time was based on the Reiner's real-life decade long romance.
Other credits from Reiner's directorial career include This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride and A Few Good Men.
Tributes were paid to the late director, with actor Ben Stiller calling Reiner a "kind, caring person", while former US President Barack Obama said that Reiner's work was predicated on "a deep belief in the goodness of people".
