Olympic rower Philip Doyle has become the latest competitor to be eliminated from RTÉ’s Dancing With The Stars, missing out on a spot in the semi-finals.

The Co. Down man, 33, missed his chance to become a semi-finalist with his pro dance partner Daniela Roze on last night’s orchestra night.

Philip and Daniela ended up in the dance-off against singer Tolü Makay and Maciej Zieba, who had scored 40 points earlier on in the night for their Charleston to Raye’s hit song Where Is My Husband!

The judges – Brian Redmond, Karen Byrne, Arthur Gourounlian and Oti Mabuse – saved Tolü and Maciej, sending them through to next week’s semi-finals.

After his exit was confirmed, Philip said: ‘Listen, I’m not easy to work with… the guys were incredible. Everybody’s been fantastic, and judging has been great. I’ve had a blast. Way more fun than I thought I’d have. It was fantastic.’

Daniela added: ‘I won the lottery with my dance partner this season. Not only were you the most hard-working, pleasant individual, you’re a beautiful person inside and out. I’ve made a friend for life.’

And the main headline is… Anne Cassin is next out of DWTS!

Philip and Daniela opened the show earlier with their Jive to Queen’s anthem Don’t Stop Me Now, which the judges called ‘full of energy’.

This weekend is the semi-final and a ‘Dancing Through The Decades’ special. Tune in this Sunday at 6.30 pm on RTÉ One.
