In an interview with fellow NBC News anchor Hoda Kotb, Guthrie said: "Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony. We are in agony. It is unbearable."
Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona in the early hours of 1 February. It has been reported that the security footage released by authorities showed a masked man at her home.
According to RTE, "No suspect has been identified and announcements of potential clues - including discarded gloves - have not led to further progress."
"To think of what she went through. I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night," Guthrie said.
"In the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now," she continued.
Elsewhere in the interview Guthrie recalled the moment she found out her mother was missing. "My sister called me. I said, ‘Is everything OK? And she said, ‘No.’ She said, ‘Mom’s missing.' And I said, ‘What? What are you talking about?’ She said, ‘She’s gone.’ And she was in a panic. I was in a panic."
Annie Guthrie, the television hosts sister had also called 911. It was revealed in the interview that they initially speculated that Nancy "must have had some kind of medical episode" throughout the night and "somehow the paramedics had come because the back doors were propped open."
Guthrie continued: "And that didn’t make any sense, We thought maybe they came and there was a stretcher, and they took her out the back. But her phone was there and her purse was there and all her things. And it just didn’t make any sense.”
Guthrie has previously offered $1 million for a tip leading to the whereabouts of her mother, the television host acknowledeged that he mother may "already be gone."
Seven weeks into the search for Nancy and authorities have not identified any suspects or persons of interest. The FBI has offered $100,000 for information.
