A new book celebrating the work of Seamus Heaney has been released.
The book, which is titled, The Poems of Seamus Heaney, includes as many as 25 unpublished poems, as well as all twelve of Heaney's collections that have been released to date. Containing over 700 poems overall, the book is available now.
Speaking about the book, Seamus Heaney's daughter Catherine called it "A landmark volume of my father’s poetry that has been years in the making".
She also hopes that her late father "feels proud" of it, while adding that celebrating his work was a joyous time, and that it is a pity that Seamus is not here to enjoy it. The poet passed away in 2013.
"It’s bittersweet to enter into the whole giddy hoopla of the launch without Dad himself at the centre of it, to hold this beautiful book knowing it won’t be inscribed, as he always did for my brothers and me as soon as a new volume landed", Catherine said. "But it’s also a moment to celebrate a breathtaking body of work with his loyal readers, fellow poets and friends; and, hopefully, for a new generation to read and reinterpret for themselves, and carry into the future".
The Poems of Seamus Heaney was collated by Dr Rosie Lavan and Bernard O'Donoghue, who had been working on this for over a decade. It was published by Faber and edited by Matthew Hollis.
