Taylor Swift has set a new career milestone as ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’ becomes her longest-running Number One single in the UK, spending a seventh week at the top of the Official Singles Chart.

The track — the lead single from her latest album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ — was released on October 3, the same day as the album. It first hit Number One on October 16, ending the reign of Olivia Dean’s chart-topper ‘Man I Need’. After three weeks at Number One, it was briefly knocked off the top spot by ‘Golden’, the breakout hit from Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters, performed by the fictional group Huntr/x. Two weeks later, Swift reclaimed the throne.

‘The Fate Of Ophelia’ also posted the largest first-week sales of 2025 — and the biggest opening of Swift’s entire career — with 132,000 units sold across downloads and streams.

Until now, Swift’s longest-running UK Number One had been ‘Anti-Hero’, which spent six consecutive weeks at the top following its release in 2022 as part of ‘Midnights’. At the time, she made history as the first woman since Miley Cyrus in 2013 to simultaneously top both the singles and albums charts. ‘Anti-Hero’ went on to spend 15 non-consecutive weeks in the Top 10.

With ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’, Swift extends her chart dominance yet again — and gives Irish fans another reminder of just how unstoppable her current era has become.
