Timothée Chalamet has said that his Golden Globe triumph tastes "that much sweeter" having lost out in previous award seasons.
Previously, Chalamet had received Golden Globes nods for roles in Call Me By Your Name, Beautiful Boy, Wonka, as well as last year's nomination for Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown.
Accepting his accolade, Chalamet has said that this victory tastes all the more sweeter following those earlier defeats.
"My dad instilled in me a spirit of gratitude growing up: ‘Always be grateful for what you have,'” he told the crowd. “It’s allowed me to leave the ceremony in the past empty-handed with my head held high, grateful just to be here".
He continued: “Josh Safdie, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for this role. Thank you for believing in me. To A24 and Ronnie Bronstein, who co-wrote this with Josh, the amazing cast of this film. If you would have told me when I was 19 years old that I would be thanking Mr. Wonderful from Shark Tank…”.
When O'Leary cracked a smile, Chalamet laughed, telling him: “You are laughing, so I got away with that". Referring to his earlier train of thought, he added: “I would have been stunned, but I would have been very grateful".
Along with Chalamet other winners included Irish actress Jessie Buckley who landed the Golden Globe for Best Drama Actress for Hamnet, while Adolescence was also big winner, with Owen Cooper, Stephen Graham, and Erin Doherty all winning acting awards.
Speaking to the audience, Cooper who played a student arrested for the murder of a classmate, thanked his parents, and spoke about how much this role has changed his life.
“What an incredible journey me and my family have been put through. We are forever grateful for what these people have done for me and my family.” Cooper also ended his speech with a shout-out to his beloved Liverpool FC, telling the audience “You’ll never walk alone”.
