Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway are set to star in 'Days Of Thunder' sequel, almost four decades after the release of the original film.
The original film was released in 1990 by Paramount Pictures and was directed by the late Tony Scott. The film followed a young stock car driver as he gets recruited to a new Nascar team for the chance to compete at the highest level.
It has been revealed that the sequel is set to be released on June 2nd 2028.
The film is set to be filmed for Imax.
A teaser for the film was released to Cruise's Instagram page. The teaser trailer featured the Top Gun actor alongside Hathaway before revealing a bright green and yellow car with the "Days of Thunder coming 2028" displayed across the vehicle.
In the video Cruise says "Now what?" and Hathaway who is pregnant with her third child says "Now what? Lets make the movie...I'm gonna have the baby, and then we're gonna make the movie."
"That’s a good idea. You have the baby, then we’ll go make the movie. We’re coming out summer of 2028. Don’t be late," Cruise said.
The sequel for 'Days of Thunder' will be directed by Warm Bodies filmmaker Jonathan Levine and co-produced by Cruise.
Top Gun’s Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper will also serve as co-producers on the film written by Will Staples.
Hathaway has had a great year as she has recently starred in Christopher Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The End of Oak Street, Mother Mary and she is appearing in the upcoming film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's book 'Verity' which is set to be released October 2026.
Cruise is best known for his role as Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the Top Gun film series and his role as secret agent Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible franchise.
The news that Hathaway would serve as Cruise's new co-star in the upcoming film has already sparked controversy.
Cruise's co-star in the original film, Randy Quaid, criticised the new film's casting and demanded that Nicole Kidman return instead.
In a post on X, Quaid said that casting Hathaway was a "leftist, woke" and "horrible." The ex co-star argued that Kidman would be a better fit for the film.
According to Variety, Paramount and Hathaway are yet to comment on these remarks.
Hathaway is set to play a racecar team owner and engineer and will not be taking on Kidman's original role of Dr. Claire Lewicki.
