Two of our best-loved stars from the hit sitcom Derry GirlsSaoirse‑Monica Jackson and Jamie‑Lee O’Donnell — are venturing far beyond their usual teenage school-girl antics as they embark on a wild road-trip through rugged Romania, in the travel-adventure series World’s Most Dangerous Roads (Series 4, Episode 6).

In this episode, airing now and available to stream on BBC iPlayer in the UK (and accessible in Ireland depending on availability), the pair navigate everything from off-road tracks to dramatic mountain passes as they make their way from the legendary Bran Castle (yes, Dracula territory) toward the banks of the Danube River.

This is their fifth trip away together this year, but unlike the previous four ‘cossetted’ holidays, this one is an off-road adventure to the rugged mountains of Romania. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, born in Derry on 24 November 1993, rose to fame as Erin Quinn on Derry Girls, after training at the Arden School of Theatre in Manchester. She has since branched out into further roles and continues to draw praise for her versatility. Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, born in Derry on 4 March 1987, is best known for playing Michelle Mallon — the feisty, bold school-girl with attitude — and has spoken openly about how told-you-so humour and respect for her roots shape her work.

Together in this episode they mix laughs with genuine tension — from wobbling cliffs to wry confessions — an unlikely but winning pairing. The trip offers something for their fans: you’ll recognise their chemistry from Derry Girls but here placed in a very different, high-stakes scenario.

Unfortunately, the whole episode, or the series, can't be viewed from the Republic of Ireland... But if you keep an eye on BBC's social media accounts, you might catch a few more hilarious bits such as this one.
