A trailer for a new series inspired by Derry Girls creator, Lisa McGee, has been released.

The series, How To Get To Heaven From Belfast, has been created by McGee, following the lives of Saoirse, Dara and Robyn, who have been friends since their school days, as they try to navigate their late 30s, different paths, and coming to terms with the death of a close friend.

How To Get To Heaven From Belfast will star Sinéad Keenan, Roísín Gallagher, and Caoilfhionn Dunne who play Robyn, Saoirse and Dara respectively. Prior to this, Roísín Gallagher starred in Sky's The Lovers or The Dry, Sinead Keenan featured in shows such as Being Human and Unforgotten, while Caoilfhionn Dunne appeared in Irish crime thriller, Love/Hate.

As for the characters themselves, Saoirse is a successful writer, capable of pressing the self-destruct button, Robyn is an honest, mother of three young boys, while Dara is a full time carer of her elderly parent, who lives in her teenage bedroom.

The series will also include comedian and Father Ted star Ardal O'Hanlon, as well as Peaky Blinders' Natasha O'Keefe, as week as  Tom Basden, Art Campion, Michelle Fairley, Josh Finan, Bronagh Gallagher, Darragh Hand, and Emmett J. Scanlan.

A synopsis for the show reads: "Clever, chaotic TV writer Saoirse, glamorous, stressed-out mother of three Robyn, and dependable, inhibited carer Dara have been a tight-knit group since school".

"Now in their late 30s, but still as close as ever, these three friends are about to embark on the most thrilling adventure of their lives".

"When an email arrives, telling them about the death of the estranged fourth member of their childhood gang, a series of eerie events at her wake set them on a dark, dangerous, and hilarious odyssey through Ireland and beyond as each tries to piece together the truth of the past".

Speaking about the show, Lisa McGee could not contain her excitement: "I feel so incredibly lucky to be making another show for the phenomenal Channel 4… I've wanted to make a comedy thriller set in Northern Ireland for SUCH a long time. I cannot wait to share these flawed, funny women with everyone".

Back in November, Derry Girls' stars Saoirse Monica Jackson and Jamie-Lee O'Donnell featured in an episode of travel adventure series, World's Most Dangerous Roads. The episode aired on BBC and the iPlayer.
