The Addams family’s spooky, stylish world now stalks the misty hills and looming castles of Wicklow, Offaly, and Dublin.
While season one was soaked in Romania’s brooding aesthetic, the creative minds behind the series, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, made the call to uproot and replant Wednesday's strange world somewhere a little closer to home. “Coming back to Ireland to shoot season two felt like a homecoming, we have beautiful castles, we have the lush greens,” Millar explained, with no trace of exaggeration. These aren’t set pieces; they’re breathing, shivering, gloriously real locations that lend authenticity and weight to the show’s otherworldly tone.
Filming began in May 2024 and has since sprawled across several standout sites: the stately Powerscourt Demesne in Enniskerry, the spectacularly eerie Charleville Castle in County Offaly, and the cinematic stillness of Deansgrange Cemetery in Dublin. The creative team didn’t just luck out, they’ve actively enhanced the show’s atmosphere with these deeply textured, almost mythic locations.
And there’s a very modern hook to all of this. With approximately 24% of international viewers admitting they use TV and film as holiday inspiration, Wednesday’s relocation reads like a long-term cultural investment. Tourism Ireland has already collaborated with Netflix on two behind-the-scenes features to spotlight the show's Irish makeover, primed to turn viewers into tourists.
The cast, meanwhile, were unsurprisingly taken with their surroundings. Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams) praised the “sensational” landscape, calling it “so beautiful, so nostalgic.” Joanna Lumley (stealing every scene as Grandmama) was similarly enchanted.
Season two of Wednesday launches today on Netflix. And while its lead character may be allergic to joy, Irish fans have every reason to be quietly thrilled.
