Zayn Malik has appeared to take a pointed swipe at former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles, making a tongue-in-cheek remark about “ticket prices” just days after Styles faced mounting backlash from fans over the cost of his newly announced shows.
The comment came during Zayn’s Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live on Wednesday night, where the singer briefly addressed the crowd before delivering what many fans interpreted as a not-so-subtle dig at Styles. Introducing the next part of his set, he joked: “Hopefully the ticket prices weren't too high... just saying.”
Swiftly moving on, he added: “Anyway, who wants to hear another song.”
The remark landed as social media continued to buzz with criticism aimed at Harry Styles, after pre-sale tickets dropped earlier this week for his upcoming seven-city global residency, Together, Together. While Styles remains one of the most successful touring artists in the world, fans were quick to express frustration at what they described as “exorbitant”, “greedy” and “out of touch” pricing.

For the London leg of Styles’ residency, ticket prices range from £44 at the lower end to as much as £725 for premium VIP packages. Standing tickets are priced between £144 and £279, while seated tickets rise as high as £466.24, with VIP experiences costing from £468.85 to £725. The scale of the prices sparked intense debate online, particularly among younger fans who have followed Styles since his early days in One Direction.
Many critics also pointed to the growing use of dynamic pricing and high-tier VIP packages in major tours, which have increasingly pushed the cost of live music beyond the reach of average fans. While Styles has not commented directly on the backlash, the controversy has reignited broader discussions about affordability and accessibility within the live music industry.
Against that backdrop, Zayn’s joke struck a nerve. The singer, who left One Direction in 2015 before embarking on a more low-key and private solo career, is currently performing his own residency in Las Vegas. Ticket prices for Zayn’s shows range from £60 to £347, significantly lower at the top end than Styles’ offerings, despite the intimate nature of the venue.
Dolby Live has a capacity of just 5,200 seats, making Zayn’s shows a far more limited and personal experience compared to Styles’ large-scale productions. Fans were quick to contrast the two approaches, with some praising Zayn for keeping prices relatively accessible, while others cautioned against reading too much into an off-the-cuff remark.

Zayn Malik rose to global fame alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne when One Direction were formed on The X Factor in 2010. The band went on to become one of the biggest pop acts of the 21st century, selling millions of records worldwide before going on hiatus in 2016.
While Styles embraced a flamboyant, stadium-filling solo career marked by high-fashion visuals and theatrical live shows, Zayn has taken a markedly different path, releasing more introspective music and performing far fewer live dates. Their contrasting approaches have often fuelled comparisons, particularly among fans eager to read symbolism into any perceived interaction between the two.
Zayn’s comment has not been followed by any further clarification, and there is no indication of any renewed tension between the former bandmates. However, the timing ensured it would be interpreted through the lens of the ongoing ticket price controversy.
As live music continues to rebound post-pandemic, artists and promoters alike are facing growing scrutiny over pricing strategies. With touring now one of the primary revenue streams in the industry, the balance between spectacle, profit and fan loyalty remains a delicate one.
Whether Zayn Malik’s quip was a genuine critique or simply a playful aside, it has added another layer to the conversation — and ensured that comparisons between two of pop’s most famous former bandmates remain firmly in the spotlight.
