Galway City Council has received a licence application for the return of an outdoor Christmas market in the city this year.

Due to pandemic restrictions, last year's market was refused permission.

This year's application was lodged by Milestone Inventive. They hope to run the market from November 12th to December 22nd.

Over 250,000 visitors would be expected to attend the market across the 40 days of its operation. In line with COVID restrictions, no more than 1,500 people would be allowed into the market at any one time.

If approved, the market will host a range of vendors, both local and international. Food, entertainment, crafts and the Bier Keller would be on offer to visitors.

The proposal seeks the return of the popular big wheel, along with Santa's train and mulled wine units.

The market would be located at Kennedy Place, including the plaza, Eyre Square North, Eyre Square West and its surrounds.

If approved, 2021 would be the twelfth year of the Galway Christmas Market. In 2019 it attracted over 650,000 visitors.
