Paying tribute to the victims of yesterday's tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School, Mathew McConaughey has said that the spate of mass shootings across America is an "epidemic we can control".

The shooting resulted in 19 students and 1 teacher shot dead in the deadliest Elementary school shooting since the Sandy Hook shooting at Newtown, Conneticut almost 10 years ago.

Taking to social media, Magic Mike star McConaughey stated that "we must do better" to combat this epidemic.

"As you all are aware there was another mass shooting today, this time in my home town of Uvalde, Texas", the actor wrote. "Once again, we have tragically proven that we are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms grant us".

"This is an epidemic we can control, and whichever side of the aisle we may stand on, we all know we can do better".

He continued, "Action must be taken so that no parent has to experience what the parents in Uvalde and the others before them have endured".

"And to those who dropped off their loved ones today not knowing it was goodbye, no words can comprehend or heal your loss, but if prayers can provide comfort, we will keep them coming".

Mathew McConaughey was one of several household names who reacted to the terrible events at Texas, with James Corden, Taylor Swift, Amy Schumer and Chris Evans all sharing their "rage and grief".

"We are grieving with the Uvalde community, a predominantly Latinx community, and everyone else impacted by yet another senseless act of violence in our schools", comedian Amy Schumer wrote. "This is yet another tragic example of how pervasive this public health crisis is in our country".
